This Thursday, Elate will be hosting a TweetUp for the Sears Chef Challenge Semi-Finals!
Have you been following the Sears Chef Challenge? Twenty-four chefs in four cities: New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Washington, DC have been battlin’ it out in a variety of culinary challenges, and now it’s down to the final four. The winning chef from each city is traveling to Chicago to compete before a live studio audience at the Kenmore Studio this Thursday, October 21st.
Come join us before the event and mingle with fellow foodies and some of Chicago’s favorite bloggers at the Elate TweetUp from 7-7:50 PM. Interesting news for Chicagoans…
The U.S. Green Building Council announced a new award is being created in honor of Chicago’s own Mayor Richard Daley, to recognize the mayor’s “legacy as a world leader in demonstrating how a nurturing and sustainable city can be the highest service to a community.” (USGBC Press Release)
Called the Mayor Richard M. Daley Legacy Award for Global Leadership in Creating Sustainable Cities, the award will be presented to its first official winner (Daley) at USGBC’s annual Greenbuild expo this November.
According to the Chicago Tribune, “During Daley’s 21-year tenure as mayor, Chicago has planted more than 600,000 trees, constructed more than 85 miles of landscaped medians and built more than 7 million square feet of planted roofs — more than any other city in the U.S., city officials have said.” (Read the rest of the article here)

The Chicago Marathon is this weekend and we couldn’t be more excited. The weather is supposed to be spectacular (72° on race day!), so whether you are a participant or a spectator, it is sure to be an wonderful, inspiring day.
When you have a second, check out the official site for the marathon, which highlights some of the stories of runners participating this year. For example, one of the participants, Jim “Skinny” Sheaham, is President of Special Children’s Charities/Special Olympics Chicago and is running his 30th Chicago Marathon this year! He has also recruited 250 runners to join him this year on behalf of Special Olympics Chicago. Amazing.
If you are traveling to Chicago for the race and haven’t yet reserved a place to stay, be careful because hotels are filling up quickly. There are still a few rooms available at Hotel Felix, but be sure to make your reservations soon! Visit us at www.hotelfelixchicago.com to make a reservation.
