Get out your green garb because one of Chicago’s favorite holidays, St. Patrick’s Day, is just around the corner. No hard feelings Kermit the Frog, but we here at Hotel Felix think it’s easy being green, and we jump at any chance to celebrate our favorite color.
The St. Patrick’s Day parade and dyeing of the river have been part of Chicago’s culture for more than 50 years. On March 12, 2011, Chicagoans begin the festivities and gather around the Michigan Avenue bridge at 10:45 a.m. to witness the iconic Chicago River turn a vibrant shade of Kelly green. A cherished tradition, thousands gather to watch the boats drive up the river, “painting” it bright green along the way.
Following, the city swells with Irish pride during the annual Chicago St. Patrick’s Day Parade, where floats glide down Columbus Avenue. The parade starts at noon and kicks off at the corner of Columbus and Balbo. The parade is a reflection of the enormous influence the Emerald Isle has had on our beloved Chicago and it’s truly an event not to miss.
Because of the parade’s continued popularity, we strongly suggest public transportation.

There’s nothing better than a positive review from one of our guests. This one really struck a happy cord with us:
“What a great place. I will definitely return. The ‘Be Happy’ vibe was felt everywhere. Again, thank you to Troy and Blake at front desk for helping us add a special touch to our clients’ rooms upon their check in. And Benjamin (concierge) – what a great way to be greeted upon each encounter with him. With a name like Joy Hart, it’s not hard to align with brands that endorse happiness. Cheers – Joy Hart “
