Happy Arbor Day!

Happy Arbor Day! The Illinois State Arbor Day falls on the last Friday of every April and is a day dedicated to planting, nursing, and celebrating trees. We’re celebrating Arbor Day this year on April 29.

Founded in 1972, the Arbor Day Foundation has grown to become the largest nonprofit membership organization dedicated to planting trees, with over one million members, supporters, and valued partners.

Here are some ways you can make the most of Arbor Day:

  • Send a Give-A-Tree e-card where a tree is planted for every card sent
  • Roll up your sleeves and plant a tree or two
  • Bring Arbor Day to classrooms in the community
  • Check out the Celebrate Arbor Day Guidebook
  • Take a hike – a tree identification hike, that is – and don’t forget your tree guide

Share some photos of your Arbor Day celebrations with us on our Facebook page.

A Green Queen Arrives This Week

What stands at 8-feet tall, has a heart of tin, a hard booty and makes doughnuts in the morning?  Doreen!  She’s the perfect “woman” and the newest, interactive sculpture from reclaimed materials.  Doreen will be unveiled at Hotel Felix at 11 a.m., April 22 (Earth Day), where she’ll then have her permanent home. Allen Christian, the sustainable artist behind the sculpture, will unveil this new masterpiece.  Doreen joins “Loren the Doorman,” who stands at 7-feet tall, as the newest addition to Hotel Felix’ staff.  Doreen and Loren are two hard-to-miss sustainable sculptures, both created by Christian of House of Balls

Hotel Felix Celebrates LEED Silver Status

Hotel Felix is extremely proud to be the first hotel in Chicago to earn the prestigious Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design™ (LEED) Silver certification for commercial interiors from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

To celebrate this monumental achievement and simultaneously kick off Earth Month on Friday, April 1, Hotel Felix welcomed NBC’s Environmental Reporter Ginger Zee and First Deputy Commissioner for the City of Chicago Department of Environment Josh Milberg to unveil the LEED Silver certification with Hotel Felix General Manager George Jordan. The evening buzzed with excitement as members of Chicago’s green community gathered to mingle and sip on organic cocktails in celebration of Hotel Felix’ environmental achievements.

Time to Play Ball Chicago!

In Chicago, spring is synonymous with baseball, and although it doesn’t feel like spring just yet (we can thank 40-degree weather and a chance of snow for that), today is devoted to the baseball fans around the city who eagerly anticipate opening day all year long!
