The 2012 Summer Olympic Games

The 2012 Summer Olympics are quickly approaching. The opening ceremony will kick off today, July 27th in the heart of London at 21:00 (9pm CST). The ceremony has been created to showcase the best of London and has been named the ‘Isle of Wonder.’ The artistic performance will include the largest harmonically tuned bell in Europe, animals, dancers, and performers.

“Our Isles of Wonder salutes and celebrates the exuberant creativity of the British genius in an Opening Ceremony that we hope will be as unpredictable and inventive as the British people,” states Danny Boyle, Artistic Director of the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony.

The opening ceremonies will include the march of athletes, speeches and oaths, and conclude with the torch and cauldron. To find out more about the 2012 London Olympic Games, click here

Felix Gardens of Babylon

Today Hotel Felix erected a scaffolding to do a few touch ups, however this is not your ordinary construction site. Hotel Felix has transformed this eye sore into a hanging garden. Fifty plants are hanging on the scaffolding creating a little garden on a sidewalk of Chicago.

Keep an eye on our “Garden of Babylon” as it continues to grow!

Foodies Unite

The 11th Annual Taste of River North will take place July 20-22, 2012 in Ward Park (Kingsbury St. and Erie St.). The event was created to bring in foodies and enjoy the delectable tastes of River North – which also happens the neighborhood where Hotel Felix calls home. Different restaurants and vendors will bring their talents to the park and showcase their favorite dishes for patrons to try.

Featured restaurants include: Moe’s Cantina, John Barleycorn, Sullivan’s, Kinzie Chop House, and many more. Along with the delicious food will be musical performers and artist showcasing their talents.

Five dollar donations will be collected at the gate before 5 p.m. and eight dollar donations will be collected after 5 p.m. For all the details on this year’s Taste of River North, click here. Grab your friends and your appetite and head to Ward Park for a weekend of good eats!

The Taste

The taste of Chicago is hitting Grant Park July 11-15, 2012. The Taste is a large outdoor festival that showcases the diversity of Chicago’s dining scene.  Among the mouth-watering filled park, there will be musical performances and family friendly activities.

Some headliners include Jennifer Hudson, Dierks Bentley, Death Cab for Cutie, and Michael Franti. The musicians will be entertaining from both the Petrillo Music Shell, tickets can be purchased on sight and the Bud Light Stage, free to the public.

Along with the music, celebrity chef du Jour will be hosting a three course meal and mingling with the patrons. Tickets are $40 and  can be purchased here.

Independence Day

You know you are in the heart of the sweet summertime when the fourth of July rolls around.  The warm summer sun and delicious smell of BBQ on the grill fill the air in celebration of our independence. At nightfall beautiful displays of fireworks light up the dark sky and everyone’s eyes. Fourth of July is a federal holiday that brings family together to celebrate.

Each year Chicago brings the city together with a dazzling firework display in honor of Independence Day. This year the fireworks will take place on July 4, 2012 at Navy Pier and are complimentary. The spectacular show will begin at 9:00pm so be sure to grab a spot on the sand and enjoy the show.
