Looking for a great festival to attend while winter sticks around? Here’s one we recommend: attend the One Earth Film Festival on March 6-8. It combines two of our favorite things at Hotel Felix: movies and the environment.
Part of Green Community Connections, One Earth Film Festival is now in its fourth consecutive year. The purpose of One Earth Film Festival is simple – create opportunities for understanding climate change and sustainability through the power of film. Each film is shown at designated theaters around the city of Chicago. Following the film, moderators from Green Community Connections lead discussions focused on the environmental solutions proposed in each film. Featured films this year include:
– Angel Azul, Directed by Marcy Cravat and Kath Delaney
– Arise, Directed by Lori Joyce and Candice Orlando
– Edible City, Directed by Andrew Hasse
– Field Biologist, Directed by Jared Flescher
With a selection of more than 35 riveting environmental films, there is certain to be a film for each festival-goer. For movie times, tickets, and a full weekend agenda visit greencommunityconnections.org.
A fan of the Oscars? So are we. That’s why you will find us at Troquet River North‘s Oscar Party this year. Adjacent to our lobby at Hotel Felix, Troquet River North is the place to be with their delicious specials and extensive wine selection. Making their Oscar Party one that any cinephile will not want to miss.
The Oscar Party takes place on Feb. 22. Guests who choose Troquet River North for dinner that evening will be eligible to enter the “Oscar Prediction” contest. The diner who has the most accurate Oscar predictions will win a $50 gift certificate to Troquet River North. (Please note, all submissions must be received by 6p.m. CST and Troquet is running this contest). In addition to the contest, Troquet will offer Oscar themed cocktails all night for only $9. Here are a few of our favorites:
What a fun day to celebrate Mardi Gras, also known as Fat Tuesday.
We had our annual team celebration for Mardi Gras with delicious food at Troquet River North, including Chicken Gumbo, Cornbread with Honey Butter. The team at Troquet created this festive meal and it is a great way to honor and appreciate everyone on our team – from the managers to the front desk to housekeeping. It takes a hardworking group to run a hotel and we certainly recognize all the effort everyone puts into it.
Then, for dessert we had a wonderfully-sweet and mouth-watering Apricot Bread Pudding. It hit the spot!
We certainly hope other businesses near and far were celebrating as well.
Following are a few photos from the celebrations before we headed back to work.

When you arrive at our hotel, you will notice three sculptures that greet you on your way in. These three pieces of sustainable art are known to our Hotel Felix family as Loren the Doorman, Madeline The Baker’s Wife, and Scrappy.
Created exclusively for Hotel Felix by Minnesota artist Allen Christian, the sculptures embrace Hotel Felix’s eco-friendly priorities as they are made with found and reclaimed materials. All three sculptures were created specifically with Chicago’s cold winters in mind, which means they will be there to greet you no matter the weather.
Loren was the first to join the family on Earth Day 2010. He stands at 7 feet tall and is made of recycled pipes, a drill bit, an umbrella stand, and a milk bucket head.
On Earth Day 2011 and 2012, Hotel Felix commissioned Madeline and Scrappy, respectively, to stand with Loren at the entrance. The goal of this family is to inspire guests to feel the fun and whimsical spirit of Hotel Felix from the moment they arrive. Of course Loren, Madeline, and Scrappy are never lacking for photo opportunities: guests, employees, and Chicagoans alike enjoy snapping photos with all three. Truly adding meaning to our motto, “Happy, Naturally.”
The next time you stay with us, be sure to say “Hello” to Loren, Madeline, and Scrappy. They’re sure to warm your heart and bring a smile to your face, no matter how chilly the temps are.
