Today it’s #BikeToWorkDay and thousands of people across the country are participating by taking a break from driving their cars or hopping on public transportation.
Last September, Chicago was voted America’s most bike friendly city by Bicycling Magazine, so it’s easy for tourists and Chicago natives alike to take advantage of our city by participating in #BikeToWorkDay.
Divvy, the bike sharing company, is also very prevalent around the city, with more than 580 stations in Chicago, Oak Park and Evanston.
If you’re looking to take a ride today, there is a Divvy station just steps away from our hotel at Wells & Huron Street.
Sushi lovers, rejoice! Taketei Sushi, an Edgewater sushi favorite, has just moved into our lobby at the start of the month.
Opening its first location in 2012, Taketei is known for “simple rolls and affordable prices,” according to this article spotlighting the restaurant in Chicago Eater.
We are excited to share that the brand new location will also offer room service to guests in our hotel – so you can enjoy the sushi in the comfort of your own hotel room.

While Chicago has some of the most unique attractions to offer to tourists and locals alike, one of our favorite events that happen every Spring and Summer are the local Farmers’ Markets, which have returned to Chicago neighborhoods. To see a complete guide of Farmers’ Markets, click here.
Not too far from us – a Divvy bike ride away – is the Green City Market, located in Lincoln Park, will be active every Wednesday and Saturday morning from 7 to 10 AM with hopes to “improve the availability of a diverse range of high quality foods, connect local producers and farmers to chefs, restaurateurs, food organizations and the public and to support small family farms and promote a healthier society through education and appreciation for local, fresh, sustainably raised produce and products.”
While many Chicago Farmers’ Markets don’t start until June, it’s easy to take advantage of these events that are happening now.
With the warm weather approaching us, we are excited to share these fun events taking place throughout the month of May – did we mention they are free?
Be sure to take advantage of Chicago’s beautiful spring and summer weather, the abundance of shopping and nightlife opportunities, and of course, our beautiful lake front.
Below are a few of our favorite free events taking place throughout the month.
Saturday May 6 – Kids and Kites Festival – Montrose Harbor
Grab your family and head to Lincoln Park for a day full of sunshine and smiles – and kites! The best part of the event is that if you don’t have a kite, free ones will be provided at the event.
Saturday May 13 and Sunday May 14 – Renegade Craft Fair – West Side
This massive fair is perfect for serious crafters to bond for their love of handmade art. The event will be taking place outdoors and is a perfect place to roam around and admire the art – and hopefully to take home a gift for yourself!
Saturday May 27 – Memorial Day Parade – Downtown Chicago
Chicago’s annual Memorial Day Parade kicks off on May 27 and has been a tradition since 1870 in honor of all the men and women who have fought for our country.
