East Coast Contessas Visit Hotel Felix

This past summer, travel bloggers Alex and Karen visited our hotel and had some amazing things to say about their visit.

They enjoyed our eco-friendly decor, comfortable beds, and accommodating location. See what else they had to say:

“A charming oasis tucked away amid the bustling sidewalks of downtown River North neighborhood, Hotel Felix is a hidden gem of sorts, but one that is certainly not to be overlooked.”

“The most important concept associated with all of Hotel’s Felix’s decor, is that they all reflect the hotel’s utmost attention to implementing eco-friendly practices.”

“In fact, the hotel has commissioned three sculptures over the years (Earth Day 2010, 2011, and 2012) made out of found and reclaimed materials:  “Loren the Doorman”, made out of recycled pipes, “Madeline, The Baker’s Wife”, and a metal dog named “Scrappy”. Hotel guests still enjoy these works of art today, as they represent the best of what Hotel Felix has to offer: a fun and fanciful spirit.”

Fly the Win, Cubs!

The Cubs play their fifth game tonight in the MLB Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The series is currently tied 2-2, so Game Five is crucial for the Cubs to clinch the win!

Chicago is definitely getting in the spirit of the series, especially because the Cubs haven’t won a World Series in over 100 years!

We hope our guests and Chicagoans alike watch the game tonight – the first pitch will be thrown at 7:08PM CST.

Pac-Man and the Hotel Industry

What do Pac-Man and the hotel industry have in common?  Apparently a lot, according to George Jordan, SVP of Operations at Oxford Hotels & Resorts and our General Area Manager.  George writes about the latest mergers and acquisitions in our industry in his latest column for Hotel News Now.

While the tourism industry was once booming with a variety of different companies and suppliers, it has now dwindled down to just a few major players gobbling up the competition.

Jordan writes, “In fact, the big brands read the writing on the wall quite a few years ago and telegraphed their intentions to the world. The internet had democratized the reservations eco-sphere because customers can now, with the click of a mouse, compare all hotels in a market, by location, quality, amenity and price. The telegraph read, “We’re protecting market share and have created a collection of unique independent hotels throughout the U.S. and the world that allows the discerning traveler more choice and still earn points.”

To read more about how the hotel industry has been affected by Pac-Man like metaphors, read this article in Hotel News Now.

And, given that election season is here, George also reminds us to get out and vote.  It doesn’t have a lot to do with Pac-Man but we agree – certainly important time to exercise that right.

Safe travels, all.

Bank of America Chicago Marathon

The Bank of America Chicago Marathon returns to the city on Sunday, October 9. Although it’s too late to register to run it, there’s still plenty of time to make plans to attend the big event!

Around 45,000 people will run the 26.2 miles around the city, and there are great tourist spots to check out the runners – from Chinatown and Lincoln Park to Millennium Park! There’s no better way to get into the Chicago spirit than by attending one of the city’s biggest events! The best part is, the event falls in the beginning of October – so we almost always have beautiful weather!

The race kicks off Sunday at 8am.

To find more information about the race, visit the Chicago Marathon’s website and check out this article from TimeOut Chicago.
