Chicago’s Holiday Activities

Do you still have yet to take advantage of Chicago’s holiday festivities? Never fear, there are plenty of chances left for you to get in the holiday spirit with only a couple weeks remaining in December. With light displays, a holiday train, and ice skating, there is certain to be something for everyone.

ZooLights at Lincoln Park Zoo: December 11-23, 26-31 and January 1-3

A beloved Chicago tradition, ZooLights provides holiday light entertainment rivaled by only a few displays in the city of Chicago. Visitors are able to walk the Lincoln Park Zoo while taking in the sights and sounds of the holiday season. Coffee, cocoa, and food are also available for purchase throughout the zoo. ZooLights is free of charge and open to the public 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Christmas Around the World and Holidays of Light at the Museum of Science & Industry: Now-January 3

Now in its 74th year, this fantastic museum display showcases more than 50 Christmas trees. Each decorated differently by various Chicago ethnic community volunteers. As visitors walk this impressive display, they will be treated to a “snowfall” every half hour with holiday performances by various dance and choral groups on weekends and select weekdays. Admission to this exhibit is included in admission price to the Museum of Science & Industry.

Chicago Union Station The Polar Express Train Ride: December 19-January 3

Always wanted to ride the Polar Express? Now is your chance! Departing from Chicago’s own Union Station the Polar Express features an interactive train ride around the city of Chicago, with a cup of hot cocoa and cookie provided for each passenger’s enjoyment.
