“The Force is what gives a Jedi his power. It’s an energy field created by all living things. It surrounds us and penetrates us. It binds the galaxy together.” – Obi-Wan
Headed to Chicago? Our city is now the new epicenter of the force. According to TravelMole.com, the “Star Wars Museum” or more properly known as ‘The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art’ has chosen to be built in Chicago. There has been a proposal to build the museum near Soldier Field and as part of the existing Museum Campus, which includes the Field Museum and Shedd Aquarium.
As TravelMole.com states Lucas himself does not have ties to Chicago, but his wife Melody Hobson is a Chicago native, and the couple lives here part time.
The museum will not be limited to only displaying Star Wars memorabilia. According to The Chicago Tribune, The Lucas Museum of Narrative Art will also be a visual presentation of storytelling.
“The museum will house a collection that includes valuable Norman Rockwell paintings, examples of the special effects he pioneered at Industrial Light & Magic, and memorabilia such as the Darth Vader costume.” Lucas will also be adding pieces from his own private collection that he has curated over the years.
According to NBC 5 Chicago, “The proposal still needs to go through the Chicago Plan Commission and the earliest it would open is 2018.”
