Happy Halloween Chicago! Here at Hotel Felix, we can’t wait to break out our costumes, candy and pumpkin carving skills. If you’re like us and are eager to celebrate Halloween before October 31st, don’t worry – you can! In true Chicago fashion, the city has an endless array of activities to keep you in the Halloween spirit the entire month of October. Below is a list of a few Halloween activities that the Hotel Felix staff would recommend to our guests to enjoy while visiting Chicago.
1. The Haunted House at Navy Pier, Navy Pier, October 2-November 2
This year, the Haunted House at Navy Pier is back with a special Zombie Containment series. From the production team that brought Illinois The Fear and Statesville Haunted Prison attractions, the Haunted House at Navy Pier is not to be missed. Based on the premise that zombie’s have taken over Earth guests have a chance to see the undead firsthand on a floating zombie research facility. The haunted house during the day is ‘low scare’ with lights on. At night it becomes high scare as an interactive experience. Tickets are $12 during the day, $20 at night.
2. Halloween Costume Party, 1501 N. Magnolia Avenue, October 25
Chicago’s largest Halloween party is back again this year for more. As Chicago’s largest, longest running, and highest rated Halloween party of the season this is an event that’s not to be missed. Taking place in an old 5 building ice factory warehouse, there are three stages to choose from featuring DJ’s LEGO, David Sabat, CZBOOGIE, and Spence: Chicago. A costume contest with prizes, dancing, and haunted exhibits throughout the party round out the fun. Tickets are $75 in advance, $80 at the door.
3. Northalsted Halloween Parade, Halsted Street between Belmont and Addison, October 31
If you’re looking to fully immerse yourself into the Chicago Halloween festivities, look no further than the Northalsted Halloween Parade. The 18th annual Northalsted Halloween Parade is sponsored by the Northalsted Business Alliance. The parade invites all Chicagoans to dress up in their own costumes and march in Chicago’s largest Halloween parade. Prizes will be awarded for scariest costume, best adult costume, best couple costume, and more! Registration is free, but each participant must complete a registration form found on the Northalsted Business Alliance website.
Whether you’re in the mood to have a trick or treat this October, Hotel Felix is happy to help you find an event to celebrate the season. Happy Halloween!

Spooktacular fun hits Daley Plaza October 26-31 2012. Chicagoween will have many family fun events to chose from; including pumpkin decorating and crafts, circus-type entertainment, and a farmers market. The farmers market will be selling fall favorites such as pumpkins, squash, apples, and other fall specialties. Head out to Daley Plaza to celebrate with the family.

Here are a few tips for creating a masterpiece out of your Jack-o-lantern:
- Find a large pumpkin for ample creation space
- Cut the lid of the pumpkin at a 45 degree angle so that the top does not fall into the pumpkin when you replace it
- Gut your pumpkin (and save the seeds for a tasty snack after you have finished your masterpiece!)
- Use a water-based marker to draw your design on the pumpkin. A damp sponge will erase any lines you are unhappy with
- A sharp flat edge knife provides accurate carving. Use an X-Acto knife for smaller details and the tip of a potato peeler for creating circles.
- Put a small candle in the pumpkin, light it, and enjoy your new Halloween decoration!
For more detailed tips on pumpkin carving look to the professionals at Pumpkin Masters.

This year, Halloween falls on a Saturday. That coincidence should create a lively downtown party atmosphere on October 30 and October 31. Hotel Felix will be sold out but we want to give guests an opportunity to have some fun before the fun… and to maybe win a free stay at Hotel Felix. So here is the hook: any guest arriving at Hotel Felix to check-in on Friday, October 30 or Saturday October 31, in FULL HALLOWEEN COSTUME, will receive $20 off their nightly rate. Now let’s be clear, FULL HALLOWEEN COSTUME means just that… you can’t show up in a business suit and claim to be dressed as a “business person”. Costume means masks, makeup, wild outfits, etc. It’ll be fun. So break out the costume and save some bucks. For the same dates, any guest that brings us a carved pumpkin, i.e. jack-o-lantern, will also receive $20 off their nightly rate. We’ll display the pumpkins in front of Hotel Felix Friday and Saturday nights. Finally, we’ll have a quick costume contest on Saturday night at 6PM. Hotel guests and the general public are invited to show off their stuff. The winner will receive a free night’s stay at Hotel Felix. So pick your perk… costume, pumpkin, free night. Maybe it’ll be the start of a great and scary weekend.
See you Halloween.
